Pigs Catch COVID - UK Bans Free Range Chickens! - War on Meat / Animal Ag
First the mink -- now the pigs? A new study shows pigs are susceptible to COVID-19, setting the stage for mass culls of our food supply in the name of zoonotic threats and public health. The UK has banned outdoor chickens under guise of "bird flu" biosecurity. The establishment is whittling away at real, healthy protein production -- even as bills are floated to end factory farming (which is great!--but not if we have outlawed free range/healthy/regenerative animals first!). It's time to start getting serious about producing protein for your family. Christian breaks it down. Food Wars: Nations Halt Exports, Import Anything in Sight
Corn/Soy/Wheat hit 6-year highs as Argentina is the latest country to limit their corn exports. While major feed companies in the US are renting river barges just to hoard soybeans, smaller markets like Nigeria and Trinidad & Tobago are canaries in the coal mine, running out of feed for their animals already, and offering a glimpse of where we are all headed as multinational companies boycott soybeans from Brazil, the #1 producer. Christian breaks down these explosive developments which, in concert with the WEF's cyberpandemic threatening to take down power grids, and the US's political timebomb ticking away, promise to make 2021 staggeringly interesting. UK Going Door to Door Killing Chickens - Bird Flu as Cover Story
The UK's DEFRA (Dept for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) is gassing chickens of residents in "zones" near detected cases of bird flu. Some farms are stopping sales or closing, due to this authoritarian overreach in the name of "public safety." This is absolutely an attack on your ability to grow food for your family, and sadly is not unique to the UK -- we must stop it. Christian breaks it down. End of the Grocery Store: Major Changes in Food Retail (and WHY)
Claims that COVID is spread at grocery stores are driving major retailers to move to online ordering and curbside pickup. There was no single moment in time when all the new beans were harvested out of the fields before some of the rest were being gobbled up by processing plants, but if there had been such a moment in time, those 4.66 bb would have been enough to fill the volume of 64 NFL stadiums up to the brim (or to fill all 31 actual stadiums twice — and then some).

Be Prepared for a Possible Seed Shortage
Spend too much time pouring over seed catalogs and plotting out every square foot of your raised beds and the seeds you need might be sold out.  Vegetable seed sellers experienced skyrocketing demand last spring as concerns over potential food shortages drove some of the demand; gardening also helped pass the time during quarantine—leading seed companies to post virtual “out of stock” stickers on some popular seed varieties. As seed starting season begins again, sellers say demand hasn’t slowed down.  “The demand has been massive,” says Mike Lizotte, co-owner and managing director of American Meadows and board president of the

Boris Johnson’s government has been warned that meat worth hundreds of thousands of pounds is going to waste at EU ports, as British exporters continue to get caught up in post-Brexit red tape problems.

It comes as photos emerged showing UK’s largest fish market in Peterhead largely deserted, as the industry struggles with an export slump caused by customs delays. “What a sad sight – like a ghost town,” said the Scotland Food and Drink group.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland secretary Brandon Lewis claimed that empty shelves in Northern Ireland were due to coronavirus “challenges” – and not because of Brexit

Are you helping to build the future ? EMERGENT, distributed (ie LOCAL) :

"Growing food and getting it to markets is the most critical activity. Poor Bill Gates, addled by his fortune, has bought up something like a quarter-million acres of farmland. His grandiosity prompts him to believe he can organize farming on the super-giant scale — Walmart for corn and turnips. Nothing could be further from the real coming trend: a reduction of scale and scope of farming and of the distribution supply lines that serve it. Poor Bill doesn’t seem to realize that the oil-and-gas-based “inputs” (fertilizers, pesticides) won’t be there for him, nor will the million-dollar diesel-powered combines. Nor the trucking industry. He could do more good for mankind getting into the mule business. (He won’t. Lacks razzle-dazzle.)

The transition between the old giant agri-biz model of farming and the emergent system of small-scaled farms based on human and animal labor will be arduous and disorderly in the early going. A lot of people will miss a lot of meals, and you know what that means. Working on a farm will be one way to make sure you get enough to eat. But also consider all the businesses that have to be created from scratch on the local level to serve the logistics of farming. You are already seeing many food products unavailable in the supermarkets. That will become more distressingly obvious in the disorders of 2021. When food deliveries to the supermarkets get really spotty, the farmers’ markets will not just be for schmoozing over lattes and almond croissants.

Why Leaving Sugar Water Out For Bees Is Such a Bad Idea
For the last few years during the summer I’ve seen a post or two about making bee feeders.  In response I have done a post advising that this is not a good idea for a number of reasons.  Usually this post has been seen by, at best, a few 100 of my followers.  This year I started to see a lot of information about making bottle top feeders for bees and again I did a facebook post in response.  By the end of the first day the post had been seen by 1,500.  Within in 10 days it had been seen by 100,000, and now my original post has now been seen by more than 600,000 people to date. The text of my post has also been copied and shared and keeps popping back up in my newsfeed in the various groups I follow so I have no idea how many people have seen the post.  Messages have been coming in so thick and fast from people asking questions as a result of that post my phone has developed a stutter!!!!

No red alert yet, but keep an eye on the trucker strike shaping up in Brazil — in 2018, this was a real blow to soybeans (and everything, but notably now the beans):

"In May 2018, a truckers strike brought Brazil’s economy to a virtual halt, as the world’s largest exporter of agricultural commodities like soybeans and poultry could not get goods to ports or food to supermarkets.

The striking truckers also caused the culling of millions of chickens, as feed failed to reach farmers. "

China purchases 'roughly 200 million gallons' of U.S. ethanol for H1 2021 - ADM

China has bought “roughly 200 million gallons” of U.S. ethanol for the first half of 2021, matching its previous record for annual imports of the corn-based biofuel, Archer Daniels Midland Co CFO Ray Young said on Tuesday.

China has not traditionally been a large importer of ethanol, but rising demand for renewable fuels and a smaller-than-expected domestic crop of corn used to make the biofuel has spurred need for imports.

Imports of 200 million gallons would eclipse China’s previous annual import record of about 198.1 million gallons in 2016, according to U.S. Census Bureau trade data.

about 10% to 15% of U.S. ethanol production capacity remains idled due to poor margins, including two dry corn mills owned by ADM. Those two mills, Young said, could restart production in the first half of this year if margins improve.

[ Note this will further cut into those corn carry over numbers !]

In order to fight "the next pandemic" we need to fight "climate change", ergo, close off nature to the population...and stop growing food....and stop eating meat:

"That’s why in November the German Federal Foreign Office and the Wildlife Conservation Society held a virtual conference called One Planet, One Health, One Future, aimed at heading off the next pandemic by helping world leaders understand that killer viruses like SARS-CoV-2 — and many other less deadly pathogens — are unleashed on the world by the destruction of nature.

With the world’s attention gripped by the spread of the coronavirus, infectious disease experts are redoubling their efforts to show the robust connection between the health of nature, wildlife and humans. It is a concept known as One Health.

While the idea is widely accepted by health officials, many governments have not factored it into policies. So the conference was timed to coincide with the meeting of the world’s economic superpowers, the G20, to urge them to recognize the threat that wildlife-borne pandemics pose, not only to people but also to the global economy.

The Wildlife Conservation Society — America’s oldest conservation organization, founded in 1895 — has joined with 20 other leading conservation groups to ask government leaders “to prioritize protection of highly intact forests and other ecosystems, and work in particular to end commercial wildlife trade and markets for human consumption as well as all illegal and unsustainable wildlife trade,” they said in a recent press release.

“The poster child for that is the extractive industry — oil and gas and minerals, and the expansion of agriculture, especially cattle. That’s the biggest predictor of where you’ll see spillover.”

Meat consumption is also growing, and that has meant either more domestic livestock raised in cleared forest or “bush meat” — wild animals. Both can lead to spillover. The AIDS virus, it’s believed, came from wild chimpanzees in central Africa that were hunted for food.

The One Health approach also advocates for the large-scale protection of nature in areas of high biodiversity where spillover is a risk."

Brazil - Lack of rainfall prompts race for genetically improved soybeans

The unreliability of the rains needed to irrigate Brazil’s vast soybean plantations is driving the race to genetically engineer seeds that are more resistant to water stress. Producers have little hope of stopping climate change and deforestation, which researchers have identified as being a factor behind water shortages, so instead they are turning to technology to avoid further losses.

Biden Attacks Farms - Comprehensive War on Global Food Supply

The Biden admin's executive actions in the last 48 hours are attacking farms and implementing the technocratic takeover of food, accelerating a global collapse in food production by paying farmers NOT to grow food, cutting their financial support, tasking Tom Vilsack's USDA with a Net-Zero goal, changing COVID guidance on grocery stores, restaurants, and meatpacking plants. Meanwhile, the media is finally acknowledging the soybean shortage, and the US is now also experiencing a fertilizer shortage, which will further increase costs and cause yields will collapse. As other countries stop exporting to protect domestic supplies, the US has been wholly sold out. This confluence of issues and cascading failures merits our attention urgently -- start growing food today.

Food export restrictions by a few countries could skyrocket global food crop prices

“Researchers modeled future scenarios to investigate the impact of export restrictions and local production shocks of rice, wheat, and maize would have on their supply and price. These three crops form the backbone of global trade in staple crops and are essential for food security across the globe.
The results show that restriction by only three key exporters of each crop would increase the price of wheat by 70%, while maize and rice would rise by 40% and 60%. When combining this with potential local shocks that occurred last year, the prices would nearly double.

"We saw that trade restrictions by only a few key actors can create large short-term price spikes in the world market export price of grains, which can lead to food insecurity in import-dependent countries," explains Postdoctoral Researcher Theresa Falkendal, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.
By suddenly losing more than one-third of their annual grain supply, many low-income and lower-middle-income countries in Africa and Asia would not be able to cover this grain supply deficit with their domestic reserves, and would need alternative grain sources to survive.”

The issue here isn’t just the fish, it’s the containers:

“Hundreds of containers are being held up in Dalian, a major port for seafood imports, as local authorities test the fish for the coronavirus before allowing them to clear customs, according to several freight forwarders, consultants and shipping companies. That’s leading to scant availability of electric outlets to keep refrigerated containers, known as reefers, cold.”

The shortage of plug points and dwindling space at the port have prompted shipping liners to cancel new reefer bookings into Dalian, and the congestion is now spreading to other refrigerated items like fruit and dumplings. It also means frozen containers are being diverted to other ports in China, leading to bottlenecks in Shanghai and Qingdao too.

The scenes playing out in Dalian echo the start of the disruptions the world saw when the coronavirus snared global trade flows early last year. Back then, lockdowns in countries including China meant ports were closed and ships couldn’t unload cargoes, causing a dearth of vessels across the world with the ripple effect lasting for months.
It’s Getting a Lot Harder to Ship Food Around the World
The port backups that have paralyzed food shipments around the world for weeks aren’t getting much better. In fact, in some places, they’re getting worse.

Amazing how all these supply chain issues are escalating, cascading failures:

Subway warns of shortages in UK:

    • Ingredients missing from some branches include carrots, eggs and cheese
    • A notice displayed in some branches blamed the shortage on 'impact of Brexit'
    • Subway said signs had been displayed in error and asked staff to remove them

Corona 2021: Will there soon be a food crisis in the EU?

"It cannot be ruled out that there will be a food crisis in Europe. It can be assumed that the food price index will rise continuously, while a further tightening of the corona measures within the EU could bring the food supply chains to a standstill"

"If the FFPI should actually reach astronomical heights, social unrest and political upheaval would be the result."

More on collapse of container availability:

Massive port congestion in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach is forcing ocean carriers to take extreme measures. Sailings are now being “blanked” (canceled) not because of lack of demand, but because of lack of tonnage as ships are stuck awaiting berths.
